I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for the beauty, power and grace of these magnificent creatures.  But when it came to their capacity to speak wisdom to me, I was a skeptic. Looking back, I now realize their ‘work’ with me began even before I arrived through a gnawing sense that I would be unable to go through the motions; I feared my own doubt would prevail.

What unfolded when I was inside the round pen with my horse amazed me. Dreams that I had been pushing to the background came up. I was surprised by the depth and clarity of what was evoked in me. I left convinced that I needed to take those dreams more seriously. I also left with a sense of wonder that showed up in the form of two questions: “What just happened?” and “How did they know that?” My initial skepticism had been replaced with amazement at the ability of horses to communicate with me and my newly discovered ability to “hear’ them!

I have had very little exposure to large animals before being invited by Dan and Lisa to meet their beautiful horses, Mesa and Regalo. When I entered the Espíritu arena for the first time I was feeling a bit of trepidation. Within moments Dan and Lisa’s calming presence allowed me to relax and open my heart to what was about to unfold. After meeting Mesa and Regalo it became intuitively evident that Regalo would be working with me this day.

Dan did a beautiful job preparing me for the experience and providing me with essential safety tips to be aware of. I entered the ring with Regalo and gradually established a trusting connection with him. Before I knew it Regalo began to communicate with me intuitively, informing me that we would be exploring the art of listening. I was already ‘hearing’ him, but without my ears. He guided me in listening to the sounds of nature around us using my ears to hear the physical sounds. He then invited me to drop my awareness into my heart, awakening a whole new capacity to listen more deeply and to hear both the sound and the quality of the energy the sound was traveling on. I was learning how to listen with my whole being.

This deepened capacity to listen has forever changed the depth with which I am able to connect with, hear and feel the world around me. It has enriched my relationship with the people I am blessed to love and serve. I am forever grateful to Lisa, Dan, Mesa and Regalo for this experience and look forward to my next coaching session.
